Raw materials are the basic materials used to manufacture a product. Their origin, extraction and transformation have a significant environmental impact. The DPP must include information on the raw materials used, their geographical origin and traceability. Verisav records raw material data in the DPP, enabling complete traceability and environmental impact assessment. Raw materials can be of mineral origin (metals, minerals), plant origin (wood, natural fibers), animal origin (leather, wool), or synthetic (plastics, composites). Each type of raw material has its own environmental issues: extraction of mineral materials can cause environmental degradation, production of plant materials may require large agricultural areas, and production of synthetic materials can generate polluting emissions. The ESPR regulation requires declaration of raw materials used in products, particularly their geographical origin, extraction or production method, and environmental impact. This information is essential for assessing carbon footprint and overall environmental impact of a product. Raw material traceability is also important to ensure their ethical and sustainable origin, particularly to avoid use of materials from conflict zones or unsustainable practices. The DPP can store all raw material-related information: material type, geographical origin, percentage in product, extraction or production method, certifications (FSC for wood, Fairtrade, etc.), and environmental impact. Verisav integrates this information into the DPP, enabling complete raw material traceability and facilitating assessment of product environmental impact throughout their life cycle.
