A repair tool is an instrument or equipment used to perform repairs on a product. It may be physical tools (screwdrivers, pliers) or software tools (diagnostic software). Access to repair tools is essential for the right to repair. Verisav documents in the DPP the tools needed for each type of repair, thus facilitating access to appropriate tools and promoting the circular economy. Repair tools can be classified into two main categories: physical tools and software tools. Physical tools include manual tools (screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, etc.), power tools (drills, screwdrivers, etc.), measuring tools (multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.), and specialized equipment (welding stations, test benches, etc.). Software tools include diagnostic software (to identify failures), programming software (to update firmwares), technical databases (to consult parts references), and mobile applications (to access DPP information). Access to repair tools is a key element of the right to repair, strengthened by the AGEC law and ESPR regulation. These regulations require manufacturers to make necessary tools available to independent repairers, including software tools and access codes. The DPP can document tools needed for each type of repair, thus facilitating identification and access to appropriate tools. Verisav integrates this information into the DPP, enabling repairers to know necessary tools before starting a repair, thus facilitating access to appropriate tools and promoting the circular economy by making repairs more accessible.
