The QR Code (Quick Response Code) is a two-dimensional barcode that can be scanned by a smartphone to quickly access digital information. In the context of DPP and Verisav, the QR Code allows instant access to a product's Digital Product Passport, containing all its traceability, warranty and history information. The QR Code is typically affixed to the product or its packaging and is the main entry point for consumers and repairers. The QR Code has become the standard interface for accessing the DPP under the ESPR regulation. It can be scanned with any smartphone without additional application, making it accessible to all consumers. The QR Code can encode different information depending on the standard used: a unique product identifier, a direct link to the DPP, or compressed data according to the GS1 Digital Link standard. In the context of the European DPP, the GS1 Digital Link standard is recommended for encoding GTIN, GLN and other Application Identifiers in an uncompressed URL. The QR Code offers many advantages: instant access to information, no need for a dedicated application, resistance to partial damage thanks to built-in error correction, and ability to be read even with reduced image quality. Verisav automatically generates GS1-compliant QR Codes for each product and integrates them into the DPP, thus facilitating access to information for all stakeholders in the value chain.
