The repairability index is a score out of 10 that evaluates how easy a product is to repair. Mandatory in France since 2021 for certain electronic and household appliances, it must be displayed at the point of sale. The index takes into account several criteria: available documentation, ease of disassembly, spare parts availability, parts prices and criteria specific to the product type. A high index promotes the circular economy by encouraging consumers to choose repairable products. Verisav integrates the repairability index into the DPP to inform consumers and facilitate repairs. The repairability index is calculated according to a precise methodology defined by the Ministry of Ecological Transition. It evaluates five main criteria, each scored out of 20 points, for a total of 100 points converted to a score out of 10. The first criterion concerns documentation: availability and quality of repair manuals, technical diagrams, spare parts lists. The second criterion evaluates ease of disassembly: accessibility of screws and fasteners, need for specific tools, risk of breakage during disassembly. The third criterion covers spare parts availability: duration of availability, ease of ordering, delivery times. The fourth criterion evaluates spare parts prices relative to product purchase price. The fifth criterion is specific to the product type and may include aspects such as software update availability for electronic products. An index of 8/10 or more indicates an easily repairable product, while an index below 5/10 signals significant repair difficulties. Display of the repairability index is mandatory in physical stores and online, and must be visible before purchase. This index increasingly influences purchase decisions of consumers concerned about the environment and circular economy. The DPP can store the repairability index and all detailed information on evaluation criteria, enabling consumers and repairers to easily access this information. Verisav integrates the repairability index into the DPP and automatically updates it based on regulatory changes and new evaluations.
