Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 · Annex XIII
The Battery Passport is the first mandatory sectoral DPP. Verisav helps you structure Annex XIII data, expose a GS1 Digital Link identifier and maintain a living passport — linked to after-sales service, repair and second life.

What is the Battery Passport?
It is a mandatory digital record for certain batteries placed on the EU market from 18 February 2027. Accessible via a data carrier (QR / Digital Link), it contains the regulatory information in Annex XIII of the Batteries Regulation and serves authorities, economic operators, repairers and, depending on access rights, consumers.
This is not a marketing option: it is a market-placement obligation.
Defines the Battery Passport, the timeline and information requirements. Annex XIII details the datasets to expose by battery type and access profile.
The general framework for Digital Product Passports. The Battery Passport is the first concrete sectoral rollout; other categories will follow via delegated acts.
The European index allows verification of passport existence and accessibility. Business data remains decentralised with the economic operator or its service provider.
Three priority families — with differentiated information obligations.
Traction batteries for electric vehicles. High requirements on composition, performance, usage history and end of life.
Batteries for light means of transport (e.g. e-bikes, scooters). Traceability and safety / circularity information.
Industrial batteries above the capacity threshold. Broad scope for industry, storage and professional equipment.

Before the obligation date, data, processes and physical carriers must be ready.
Map ERP/PLM/suppliers, align Annex XIII attributes, choose the identifier and publication model.
Prototype GS1 Digital Link QR, role-based access rights, machine-readable exports (JSON-LD) and completeness checks.
Covered batteries placed on the EU market without a compliant passport = non-compliance risk and blocked market access.

Beyond the QR: a governed product memory, with differentiated access.

A DPP platform built for compliance and lifecycle — not a simple QR generator.
Attribute structuring, completeness validation, JSON-LD export and open Verisav DPP vocabulary (RDF/OWL).
Resolvable identifier, production-ready QR, canonical passport URL, compatible with market surveillance.
After-sales events (diagnosis, repair, parts) enrich the passport — essential for battery second life.
Compliance checker and DPP QR generator to scope the project before industrialisation.
Audit your Annex XIII maturity, run a first battery model pilot and connect the passport to your after-sales flows.
