When will aluminium have a mandatory DPP?
After the delegated act (indicative adoption Q3–Q4 2027 according to the Commission) and the transition of at least 18 months. Until the act is adopted, there is no aluminium compliance obligation dated like batteries.
What is confirmed — and what is not
Confirmed
- The DPP framework is based on the ESPR (EU Regulation 2024/1781).
- Precise product requirements will be set by a delegated act (or dedicated sectoral legislation).
- After adoption of the ESPR delegated act, operators have a transition period of at least 18 months.
- The only fixed placing-on-the-market obligation published to date: the battery passport (18 February 2027, Regulation 2023/1542).

- Adoption of the delegated act for this sector: Q3–Q4 2027 (indicative Commission timeline, subject to change).
- The compliance obligation date = adoption + transition (≥ 18 months) — it is not yet a “fixed” obligation as for batteries.
