The Commission distinguishes energy-related products (2026–2029 window) and ICT products (delegated act adoption in 2029, indicative). This is not a single electronics obligation on 18 February 2027 — that fixed date concerns certain batteries.
Does electronics have a mandatory DPP in 2027?
Not as a “general electronics” category. 18 February 2027 targets certain batteries (Regulation 2023/1542). For ICT, the Commission indicates delegated act adoption in 2029 (indicative). Energy-related products span 2026–2029. Each sub-group will depend on its act.
What is confirmed — and what is not
Confirmed
- The DPP framework is based on the ESPR (EU Regulation 2024/1781).
- Precise product requirements will be set by a delegated act (or dedicated sectoral legislation).
- After adoption of the ESPR delegated act, operators have a transition period of at least 18 months.
- The only fixed placing-on-the-market obligation published to date: the battery passport (18 February 2027, Regulation 2023/1542).
Indicative (EU Commission)
- Adoption of the delegated act for this sector: 2029 (ICT) (indicative Commission timeline, subject to change).
- The compliance obligation date = adoption + transition (≥ 18 months) — it is not yet a “fixed” obligation as for batteries.
- The exact DPP data content (fields, access rights) will be specified in the delegated act — we do not invent it here.
